Spalted Telecaster - Part 2

I've made a little bit more progress in preparing the wood. I've sanded the one piece body blank to reveal some nice grain that will really pop once the finish is on.

The walnut I'm using for the body is attractive but heavy - a standard 45mm thick tele would weigh something like 9lbs, too much for this build. So I do some weight relief and the final thickness of the body will be about 40mm, and the final weight about 7.5lbs - perfect. By weight relief I mean holes, and lots of them...

I've also jointed and glued together the bookmatched spalted maple top. I use the 'tent method' which uses sticky tape to act as the clamping mechanism. It works well and looks cool! The aim is to get a glue joint that is completely invisible.

Chris also came into the workshop to choose some wood for the neck. He ended up going for a lovely piece of figured maple with some subtle flame that will complement the top nicely. And being quatersawn, the shimmer will be amazing once the oil finish is applied.

For now that's it. Once last group photo....

That's it, thanks for reading.
